We are proud to lead an exciting effort to preserve and permanently display the sail from the ex-USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN-699), the only U.S. Navy submarine ever named in honor of our city.
Located on Jacksonville's downtown riverfront, the submarine sail will become a powerful symbol of service, sacrifice, and the generations of Sailors who proudly served beneath the seas. More than a historic artifact, it will stand as a lasting tribute to Jacksonville's rich naval heritage while creating a unique educational destination for residents, visitors, students, and veterans alike.

Our Mission
Goal of the project is to bring the Sail Structure of the submarine ex-USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN699) to the downtown Jacksonville Naval Museum for advancement of education and to honor the regions active duty military and veterans, past and present.

By adding the sail to the Jacksonville Naval Museum campus, we can expand educational opportunities, strengthen heritage tourism, support local businesses, and create another reason for families, veterans, and visitors to explore downtown Jacksonville. Together with the USS ORLECK, this exhibit will tell an even richer story of American naval service—above and below the sea.
History of the USS Jacksonville
Known as "The Bold One," the USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN-699) proudly served the United States Navy for four decades as a Los Angeles-class nuclear-powered attack submarine. Commissioned on May 16, 1981, she was the only U.S. Navy vessel ever named in honor of Jacksonville, Florida, faithfully serving our nation until her decommissioning on November 16, 2021.
